Grand Lounge and Dining Room unveiled

Barty House Nursing Home shone this Christmas, as staff and residents unveiled the results of recent refurbishments to their families and friends. The Grand lounge and dining room of Barty house are both imposing spaces, with large picture windows, and high ceilings - but General Manager Jacqui Butler and her team felt they were in need of some "tlc" to show them at their very best.

Both rooms have been undergoing careful restoration - the original floors have been restored, the lounge has English oak parquet and the dining room has pine floorboards, both are looking incredible after the restoration.

To set them off, both rooms were painted in rich heritage colours, the lounge a vintage green and the dining room a deep red. Antique furniture in keeping with the scheme was purchased at a very good price from the "Heart of Kent hospice", - thank you to them for all their help in sourcing appropriate fitting furniture. This includes a large grand table which has settings for 12 people and a piano. We are looking forward to sing along afternoons as many of our staff and volunteers play the piano - as well as a good few of our residents.

Finally we had elegant curtains made - by our great curtain maker Wendy - who also makes curtains for castles! Wendy took some preloved curtain material and turned it into a dramatic set of curtains in the dining room and the lounge now has the most sumptuous curtains, in antique gold with swags and tails. These rooms are for our residents to use and enjoy on a daily basis. They can also be hired out by family and friends for functions such as birthdays.
