Barty House Care Home - Pet's Month

It’s a dogs life at Barty House during National Pets Month

Tilly the long haired Chihuahua and Max the golden retriever have a hard life – pop in to Barty House Nursing Home in Bearsted, greet residents with a wagging tail and collect as many strokes as possible.

They get a big dose of affection on their regular visits to the Canford Healthcare home, which is supporting National Pet Month (until May 4). A main focus of the month, which has returned for its 20th year, is to make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets – something Barty House has no trouble highlighting.

Tilly belongs to Barty’s activities coordinator Brenda Clayton and Max, a puppy, is brought in by manager Jacqui Butler. Jacqui said: “The residents just love to see them. They bring something to the home that no other visitor can. It’s a highlight for all of us.”

National Pet Month’s aims include promoting responsible ownership, increasing public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals and raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion dogs.

Canford Healthcare has homes and services in Sussex and Kent, including homes where residents are able to bring their pets with them when they move in.
