Barty House Care Home - Letter to the Editor
January 2009
Dear Editor,
Re: Letter for publication
We are hoping to reach residents of Bearsted and Maidstone who would know the history of Barty House, in Roundwell.
Its owners, staff, residents and their families are keen to find out as much as possible about the house and grounds while it is undergoing an extension. Once a home to Viscount Monkton and a temporary residence of Lady Bailey while Leeds Castle was renovated, it is surely harbouring more stories, many of which won’t be found in the archives. Tales of Victorian ghosts already exist and we would be happy to hear from anyone who can add to them. Canford Healthcare, which owns Barty House, will look at ways to record the information readers provide for future generations.
The Barty House extension will provide a further 27 rooms with ensuite bathrooms, a new kitchen, laundry, dining room, entrance, reception and administration area. Once the extension is complete this summer, the main building will be refurbished and modernized, with a new lift.
Yours Sincerely,
Jacqui Butler, Manager, Barty House
